Background
       An Athenian politician and general, Nicias was mostly known for his contributions to the Peloponnesian War alone.

Peloponnesian War Contribution
       Nicias partook in the offensive campaigns of the first ten years of the Peloponnesian War, although he did nothing much of significance. However, after the successful Battle of Sphacteria, the Delian League faced major losses through battle and it would be Nicias who successfully persuaded the Spartans to agree to the Treaty of Nicias. Despite the treaty, however, Thebes and Corinth would continue their hostilities on Athens.
